Symsites at the 11th Conference on Sustainable Solid Waste Management
Symsites participated in the 11th Conference on Sustainable Solid Waste Management, which took place from June 19 to 22, 2024, in Rhodes, Greece.
This conference provided a platform for experts, researchers, policy-makers, and industry leaders to address the pressing issue of sustainable solid waste management and to promote innovative practices and effective technologies within the field.
Biohydrogen Production from Household Food Waste
In alignment with the conference’s themes, researchers and professionals from the University of Patras, and the National Technical University of Athens presented a study in the frame of the Symsites project.
The study, titled “Continuous Fermentative Biohydrogen Production from Household Food Waste” highlighted biohydrogen’s potential as a clean, CO2-neutral fuel made from biowaste.
Biohydrogen is a promising nontoxic and sustainable energy source that can be derived from a variety of raw, renewable materials. Symsites’ study particularly highlighted the potential of household food waste as an ideal substrate for biohydrogen production, which offers dual benefits: it not only minimizes waste but also contributes to energy recovery in a sustainable, circular framework.
