Towards Greener Crosslinking of Nanofiltration Membranes – A New Publication by KU Leuven
KU Leuven researchers have published a new scientific article entitled “Polyethyleneimine Crosslinkers: Towards Greener Crosslinking and Simultaneous Conditioning of Solvent-Resistant Nanofiltration Polyimide Membranes?” in the Journal of Membrane Science.
The study investigates the use of hyperbranched polyethyleneimine (PEI) as a safer alternative to conventional diamine crosslinkers used in the production of solvent-resistant nanofiltration membranes. Thanks to their lower volatility, PEI crosslinkers can reduce handling hazards while supporting greener membrane manufacturing processes. The researchers also explored whether PEI could simultaneously crosslink and condition membranes in a single processing step, simplifying the fabrication process while maintaining solvent resistance. The findings provide valuable insights into the development of more sustainable membrane manufacturing strategies for industrial applications.
The publication contributes to ongoing efforts to develop greener, more efficient membrane fabrication methods that support circular and sustainable industrial processes.
