The SYMSITES Project Takes Centre Stage at ITG’s Event on Digitalisation and Urban-Industrial Symbiosis

On 23 October, the ITG Technology Centre took part in the “Water Challenges and Circular Economy” conference, organised within the INNO4H2O ecosystem, with a presentation focused on the progress of the European project SYMSITES.

During the session, Laura Rancaño, R&D Engineer in ITG’s Water Technologies Division, delivered a presentation entitled “Digitalisation and Urban-Industrial Symbiosis: Process Support and Territorial-Scale Potential”, highlighting the key role of digitalisation in driving the sustainable transformation of water management.

The presentation emphasised how data spaces and technology are enabling a new model of water governance, promoting efficiency and sustainability through synergies between urban and industrial environments.

The event brought together European experts, organisations and companies from the sector to discuss current challenges in water management and the opportunities offered by the circular economy. Among the participating organisations were the Spanish Water Technology Platform (PTEA), Catalan Water Partnership (CWP) and Water Europe.

The session concluded with a central message: water is transformed through data and technology. The SYMSITES project, funded by the Horizon Europe programme, is moving precisely in this direction, developing innovative digital solutions to promote urban-industrial symbiosis and smarter, more circular water management.
