SYMSITES at IWA Conference 2023 

The SYMSITES project presented its cutting-edge urban-industrial symbiosis technology during the 6th IWA International Conference on ecotechnologies for wastewater treatment, held in Girona from June 26th to 29th, 2023.

The conference served as a platform for presenting various studies on wastewater treatment, reuse, and resource recovery at both urban and industrial scales, with a strong focus on effective knowledge transfer into practice. 

Raquel Tamarit, technician from the FACSA R&D&I team, introduced SYMSITES through an engaging poster session. Her presentation highlighted how advanced technology can foster industrial symbiosis and explained how to regenerate water and transform urban and industrial waste into valuable products. 

With innovative methods it is possible to evaluate urban-industrial symbiosis impact on social, economic, and environmental fronts.

Throughout the four-day event, attendees had the opportunity to engage in keynote presentations, daily plenary sessions featuring world-renowned speakers, enlightening presentations, posters, and interactive workshops to discuss open questions.

Undoubtedly, this conference has emerged as a significant international gathering for researchers, technology providers, engineering consultancies, and utilities – all striving for a more sustainable future.
